The Romanian IT industry seen through the eyes of Keshav Murugesh , CEO at WNS Global Services – part I
India represents a real force in the IT Industry sector and the strong position this country has will not change in the near future especially when millions of people work in this field.Furthermore, the Asian country has the advantage of having a very young population – as explained in an interview for HotNews by Keshav Murugesh, WNS Global Services CEO.
What are the main differences between the Romanian IT sector and the Indian one and also why is not China one of the leader countries in IT at the moment – please join us in finding out in the article below !
The BPO industry – effective services that bring added value to corporations
Keshav Murugesh is head of WNS Global Services, a company with 26,000 employees working in the BPO sector ( Business Process Outsourcing)
BPO is a subset of outsourcing that involves the contracting of the operations and responsibilities of specific business functions (or processes) to a third-party service provider. For example, international companies often employ BPO firms to make phone calls to customers, instead of creating this particular department inside their own company.
India – IT strengths connected to large numbers that will keep the competition intact
The BPO sector , along with the software and hardware production make the entire Indian information technology sector achieve figures others can only dream of – annual turnover of $ 100 billion and a possibility of achieving the amount of $ 300 billion by the end of decade. The IT sector in India has 2.8 million direct employees and over 8 million indirect.Well known companies such as Infosys and Wipro have their share in the business, and the hot spot of the country is represented by the Indian metropolis Bangalore.
However, the situation is not as bright as it may seem.In emerging countries, India and Romania included, the wages in the IT sector have grown and will continue to grow creating a desire for large and important companies to leave and search for other states that have lower salaries.
Are companies relocating their business from India to countries with lower wages? WNS CEO declared that this fact is highly unlikely because India has many advantages.
“India’s biggest advantage is represented by the fact that it has a large number of inhabitants and many of them have higher education: 3 – 3.5 million college graduates annually, many of them in the IT sciences. Furthermore, the English language is a plus in India as it’s one of the national languages. The state also benefits from the fact that this country has one of the youngest population in the world, with an average of 26 years old. Demographics and education are India’s main advantages and we should also mention the fact that Indian companies are relocating and creating new business hubs in other parts of the world. The wages will continue to grow, but India will remain a competitive country. However, the stake is high, because other countries, such as the Philippines, have a very strong BPO segment” Keshav Murugesh declared
